Sprechen, one turn at a time
Find your words before the silence grows.
Sprechen practice for the moments the paper cannot make comfortable. Rehearse the turn, the question, the reason and the repair, then enter the room with a plan you can adapt.
About this skill
Speaking improves when you practise the job of each turn, not a memorised speech.
Choose your board and level, follow the Teil shape and build a response that gives the other person something to work with.

Start the turn
A clear opening buys you thinking time and tells the listener what you are answering. Use a simple structure you can adapt to the prompt.

Keep the exchange moving
Ask, answer, react and suggest. A speaking exam measures what you do with the partner's turn as well as what you say alone.

Repair without panic
If a word disappears, describe it, ask for a repetition or restart the sentence. Communication survives a small pause when the next move is ready.

What you get
Three things every run gives you

A1 means a useful exchange
Introduce yourself, ask for a detail and make or respond to a simple request. Keep the turn short enough to stay clear.

A2 means shared planning
Answer questions, talk about familiar life and plan something together. Agree, disagree politely and offer the next step.

B1 means a connected view
Explain a topic, give a reason and react to another view. A simple example makes the answer easier to follow.

B2 means a structured position
Present an argument, qualify it and keep a discussion alive. Signpost your point so the listener can follow the direction.
How it works
From first tap to explanation
Step 1 of 5
Name the speaking job
Look at the Teil and decide whether you introduce, ask, report, plan, present or discuss. One job gives your answer a spine.
Step 2 of 5
Make three notes
Use keywords for point, reason and example, or for question, answer and reaction. Notes should release your speaking, not become a script.

Step 3 of 5
Take the first turn
Start with a complete sentence and a clear connection to the prompt. A calm opening gives your partner an easy response.
Step 4 of 5
React and repair
Ask a follow-up, acknowledge the other view or ask for a repetition. If a word goes missing, describe it and continue.
Step 5 of 5
Review the interaction
After practice, note whether the answer covered the job, stayed connected and used a repair when needed. Choose one turn to repeat aloud.

Step 1 of 5: Name the speaking job

How Sprechen sits in the result
| Exam | Speaking result | Result model | Threshold or floor | Practice reading |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Goethe A1 | 25 result points | 100 total across four parts | Pass at 60 total; no separate speaking floor | Keep the exchange clear enough to protect the oral part |
| Goethe A2 | 25 result points | 100 total across four parts | Pass at 60 total, with 15 of 25 oral | The oral floor matters even when the written result is strong |
| Goethe B1 | 100 module points | Each module is certified separately | Pass Sprechen at 60 of 100 | Practise the part that breaks the interaction |
| Goethe B2 | 100 module points | Each module is certified separately | Pass Sprechen at 60 of 100 | Use the preparation window to build a position, not a script |
| telc A1 | 15 skill points | 60 total across four skills | Pass at 36 total; no separate speaking floor | Keep each short turn useful and audible |
| telc A2 | 15 skill points | 60 total across four skills | Pass at 36 total; no separate speaking floor | Use a complete response and a clear plan |
| telc B1 | 75 oral points | 225 written plus 75 oral points | 135 of 225 written and 45 of 75 oral | Interaction supports the separate oral threshold |
| telc B2 | 75 oral points | 225 written plus 75 oral points | 135 of 225 written and 45 of 75 oral | A structured position still needs a live response |

Ihr Partner fragt Sie dann: „Wohin fährst du im Sommer gern?“ Antworten Sie.
Sprechen Sie mit Bruno: zwei Runden, in jeder Runde eine Frage und eine Antwort.
How to review a speaking turn
A useful speaking review listens for the job of the turn and the connection between turns.
Step 1: Task coverage
Did the turn do what the Teil asked: introduce, ask, present, discuss or plan? Name the missing job before changing vocabulary.
Step 2: Structure
Could the listener follow the point, reason and example? Add a simple signpost when the direction changes.
Step 3: Interaction
Did you answer the partner, invite a response or move the plan forward? Speaking is a shared route.
Step 4: Repair
When a word was missing, did you keep communication alive? Practise one repair phrase until it feels ordinary.
The aim is a clear, connected turn that survives a small pause and still gives the other person a way in.

Common mistakes
Three mistakes that cost points

Memorising a speech
A memorised answer breaks when the topic changes. Fix: practise point, reason and example as small parts you can rearrange.

Answering without reacting
A correct monologue can still leave the partner outside the exchange. Fix: ask a follow-up, acknowledge the view or offer a next step.

Stopping after a lost word
One missing word does not end a turn. Fix: describe it, ask for a repetition or restart with a simpler sentence.
Questions
What people ask before their first run
Can I practise speaking without a partner?
Yes. Use the prompt to rehearse the speaking job, record your turn and review the route from point to reason to response.
Add a partner when you need live interruption and planning.
telc B1 SprechenShould I memorise answers?
Memorise structures and repair phrases, not full answers. The prompt and partner's turn can change, so your plan must flex.
German speaking exam topicsHow much Sprechen practice is free?
Free accounts can submit two speaking tasks each day. Premium removes the daily practice question limit, while writing and speaking grading still use a separate monthly allowance.
Do all speaking exams have preparation time?
No. Goethe B1 and B2 use a 15-minute preparation period, and telc B1 and B2 use about 20 minutes.
Goethe A1 and A2 and telc A1 and A2 do not use that preparation window.
Goethe B1 SprechenWhat if I forget a word?
Describe the idea, ask for a repetition or restart with a simpler sentence. A repair keeps the exchange moving and gives you time to recover.
What is different at B2?
B2 asks for a more structured presentation and discussion. Practise a clear position, support it, qualify it and connect your response to the other view.
Goethe B2 SprechenWhere should I start?
Choose the board and level you plan to take. Begin with the Teil whose speaking job feels least automatic, then repeat it with a new topic.
