Scoring rubric

These are the public criterion names. Sprachpass does not expose internal grading instructions here.

  • Erfüllung der Aufgabenstellung und sprachliche Realisierung (task fulfilment and language)

Three common mistakes

  1. 1Preparing a fluent introduction and never practising the alphabet and numbers aloud. Spelling and the number are each their own scored row inside Teil 1.
  2. 2Answering the theme word in Teil 2 instead of forming a question a partner could answer.
  3. 3Making your request in Teil 3 and forgetting the response when a request comes your way.

Common questions

How long is telc A1 Sprechen?
About 15 minutes for the group, with three Teile, worth 15 of 60 points.telc A1 exam guide
Is there preparation time?
No. The cards are handed out during the exam.telc A1 study plan
How are the 15 points split?
Teil 1 carries 3 points, and Teile 2 and 3 carry 6 each.
How long is each Teil?
About 3 minutes for Teil 1 and about 4 minutes each for Teile 2 and 3. The examiners then take about 4 minutes to agree your marks while you wait.
Who runs the exam?
Normally two licensed examiners: one leads the conversation and asks the follow-up questions, and both assess. In Teile 2 and 3 your questions and requests go to the other candidates.
What does the examiner ask after my introduction in Teil 1?
A short extra task, the Zusatzaufgabe, scored inside Teil 1's 3 points: spell something, such as your first name, family name or street, and say a number, such as your phone, mobile or house number. Practise the German alphabet and your own numbers aloud.
What do I say in telc A1 Sprechen Teil 2?
One correct, understandable question with each card's word, then a short answer to each question aimed at you. Prepare two frames and bend every card into them: a W-question such as Was essen Sie zum Frühstück? and a yes-no question such as Gibt es hier eine Kasse?telc A1 Sprechen topics
What do I say in telc A1 Sprechen Teil 3?
A polite request for each picture and a reaction when a request comes to you, such as Ja, natürlich, bitte, where the scoring rewards a short, clear request over a long sentence. Three frames handle any card: ..., bitte!, Kann ich bitte ...? and Können Sie mir bitte ...?
How does Sprachpass practise telc A1 Sprechen without a group?
As its own graded module, stated plainly before you start. You record your side of each Teil and it is scored against the public telc criteria. The written mock never includes it, because the real oral exam needs other candidates and examiners.Free telc A1 mock exam
Does writing practice help with Sprechen?
Yes. Writing gives you time to build the phrases you need, such as a reason or a suggestion, and once you can write them you can say them faster.telc A1 Schreiben
