telc A1 study plan: 4 weeks to prepare

Prepare with a 4-week telc A1 study plan, weekly practice for each exam skill, progress checkpoints and links to book your exam.

Before you start

This is an exam plan for learners who can already introduce themselves, ask simple questions and understand slow everyday German.

The once-played listening tasks reward daily contact. Ten focused minutes of Hören still count on a busy day.

Adjust the pace to your starting point

You already work comfortably at A1

Use the 4-week plan as written and spend extra time on your weakest exam skill.

Your German is close, but uneven

Repeat the first training block before you add the clock. Let practice evidence set the date.

You are still building toward A1

Add language-learning weeks first. This plan prepares the exam format, not the whole language level.

2, 4 or 8 weeks: how to stretch or compress this plan

Allow 45 to 60 minutes on weekdays and one longer timed session at the weekend.

2 weeks
Compress only after a complete A1 course. Learn the task shapes first, then run timed sections in week two.
4 weeks
Use the schedule as written when your basic German exists and you can study for about an hour a day.
8 weeks
From zero, build the language first and keep ten minutes of listening in every study day.

How to split your study time

Hören

Listen daily, with extra attention to the part that plays only once.

Lesen

Learn the three fixed task shapes before adding time pressure.

Schreiben

Alternate the form and short-message tasks until their structure is automatic.

Sprechen

Practise the introduction, question cards and request cards aloud.

Your week-by-week plan

Each week has one focus, the matching Sprachpass drills, and one honest checkpoint before you move on.

Week 1

45 to 60 minutes a day

Learn the telc A1 order: about 20 minutes of Hören Teile 1 to 3, then one 45-minute block for Lesen Teile 1 to 3 and both Schreiben tasks, then Sprechen in a group. Practise W-questions (Wann? Wo? Wie viel?) and polite requests (Ich möchte ..., Können Sie ...?).

You can explain how you will split the 45 minutes between reading and writing.

Week 2

60 minutes a day

Untimed reading: Lesen Teil 1 letters true or false, Teil 2 source a or b, Teil 3 notices true or false. Complete the Schreiben form and the short message, and practise the Sprechen Teil 1 introduction aloud.

You name the source before choosing in Lesen Teil 2, and the form has no gaps.Practice mode stays untimed and gives feedback after each answer.

Week 3

60 to 90 minutes a day

Run Hören at its real length and the reading and writing block as one 45-minute clock. Say Sprechen Teil 2 question cards and Teil 3 request cards aloud.

Both Schreiben tasks are done before the shared block ends.

Week 4

60 to 90 minutes a day

Sit a timed rehearsal and score it as one total out of 60, with 36 as the pass line. Give the lowest part a second session, then keep the final days light.

Your total clears 36 with room to spare, and nothing in the format surprises you.Practice mode stays untimed and gives feedback after each answer.

Questions about the plan

Is 4 weeks enough for telc A1?

4 weeks can be enough when your German is already near A1. If the first two weeks show large language gaps, add time before the timed rehearsal block.

How is telc A1 scored, and what does that change in this plan?

You pass with at least 36 of 60 points in total. The plan scores every rehearsal as one total and uses the points per part only to choose what to repair.

Which week rehearses each telc A1 part?

Hören Teile 1 to 3 run daily from week 1, and week 2 trains Lesen Teile 1 to 3, both Schreiben tasks and the Sprechen Teil 1 introduction untimed. Week 3 adds the 45-minute block and Sprechen Teile 2 and 3, and week 4 rehearses the full exam.

Which German should I focus on for telc A1?

W-questions and polite requests: Wann beginnt der Kurs?, Können Sie das wiederholen?, Ich möchte einen Termin vereinbaren. Sprechen Teil 2 asks you to form questions, and Teil 3 asks you to make and answer requests.

How many days a week should I practise?

Five or six short days usually work better than one long weekend. Keep one lighter day and protect daily listening when it appears in the plan.

When should I book the exam?

Use a timed rehearsal as evidence. If the format feels familiar and your results are steady across skills, check current dates on BookGermanTest. If not, extend the repair block first.
