Before you start
This plan is for learners whose everyday German is already near A2. Its job is to make the exam shapes and timing familiar.
A month is enough for exam preparation when the language is there. It is not enough to build the whole A2 level on the side.
Adjust the pace to your starting point
You already work comfortably at A2
Use the 4-week plan as written and spend extra time on your weakest exam skill.
Your German is close, but uneven
Repeat the first training block before you add the clock. Let practice evidence set the date.
You are still building toward A2
Add language-learning weeks first. This plan prepares the exam format, not the whole language level.
2, 4 or 8 weeks: how to stretch or compress this plan
Allow 60 to 90 minutes a day for four weeks, with the longer sessions reserved for timed work.
- 2 weeks
- Compress only from a strong A2 base. Combine weeks one and two, then use the second week for timed sections.
- 4 weeks
- Use the schedule as written for one month of exam preparation at 60 to 90 minutes a day.
- 8 weeks
- Use the first four weeks to close A2 language gaps, then begin this four-week exam plan.
How to split your study time
Hören
Keep a daily slot because some audio parts play only once.
Lesen
Move from untimed accuracy to complete sets under the section clock.
Schreiben
Practise both short texts together before adding the shared time limit.
Sprechen
Answer all three oral task types aloud, then rehearse with brief preparation.
Your week-by-week plan
Each week has one focus, the matching Sprachpass drills, and one honest checkpoint before you move on.
Week 1
45 to 60 minutes a day
Map the Goethe A2 paper: Lesen Teile 1 to 4, Hören Teile 1 to 4, Schreiben tasks 1 and 2, Sprechen Teile 1 to 3. Revise the Perfekt (ich habe gearbeitet, ich bin gefahren), useful for explaining what happened in Schreiben Teil 1 and in your Sprechen Teil 2 talk about your own life.
Week 2
60 minutes a day
Work untimed: Lesen Teil 4 with its one person who matches no advert, and Hören Teil 2 followed across a whole week. Write both Schreiben messages and tick off the three points each one names.
Week 3
60 to 90 minutes a day
Rehearse the 90-minute written sitting in one go: 30 minutes for Lesen, about 30 for Hören and 30 for Schreiben, with no break between them. Answer Sprechen prompts with no preparation time, as in the exam.
Week 4
60 to 90 minutes a day
Sit a timed rehearsal and check three lines: 60 of 100 overall, at least 45 of 75 written and at least 15 of 25 spoken. Spend the next sessions on the part furthest below its line, then wind down.
Ready to look for an exam date?
Sprachpass handles preparation. BookGermanTest handles current dates, centres and booking details. Check there only when your rehearsal evidence feels steady.

Questions about the plan
Is 4 weeks enough for Goethe A2?
4 weeks can be enough when your German is already near A2. If the first two weeks show large language gaps, add time before the timed rehearsal block.
How is Goethe A2 scored, and what does that change in this plan?
You need 60 of 100 overall, with at least 45 of 75 from the written parts and 15 of 25 from Sprechen. A strong written score cannot rescue a weak oral one, so the week 4 rehearsal checks both lines, not just the total.
Which week rehearses each Goethe A2 part?
Weeks 1 and 2 cover all four Lesen and Hören Teile and both Schreiben tasks without a clock. Week 3 times the 90-minute written sitting and adds Sprechen Teile 1 to 3, and week 4 rehearses everything.
Which German should I focus on for Goethe A2?
The Perfekt with haben and sein, so you can say what you did last weekend or on holiday. It is useful when you explain why something happened in Schreiben Teil 1 and when you talk about yourself in Sprechen Teil 2.
How many days a week should I practise?
Five or six short days usually work better than one long weekend. Keep one lighter day and protect daily listening when it appears in the plan.
When should I book the exam?
Use a timed rehearsal as evidence. If the format feels familiar and your results are steady across skills, check current dates on BookGermanTest. If not, extend the repair block first.
