telc B2 study plan: 8 weeks to prepare

Prepare with an 8-week telc B2 study plan, weekly practice for each exam skill, progress checkpoints and links to book your exam.

Before you start

Start with a stable B1 base and enough B2 language to read, listen, write and discuss connected ideas.

telc B2 is one combined exam. Repair the weakest skill, but keep all parts warm through the final two weeks.

Adjust the pace to your starting point

You already work comfortably at B2

Use the 8-week plan as written and spend extra time on your weakest exam skill.

Your German is close, but uneven

Repeat the first training block before you add the clock. Let practice evidence set the date.

You are still building toward B2

Add language-learning weeks first. This plan prepares the exam format, not the whole language level.

2, 4 or 8 weeks: how to stretch or compress this plan

Allow about 8 to 12 hours a week, with longer blocks for Lesen plus Sprachbausteine and timed writing.

2 weeks
Use two weeks only for a retake or a narrow repair goal after a recent complete rehearsal.
4 weeks
Pair the schedule weeks, keep Hören daily, and preserve complete written-paper practice.
8 weeks
Use the schedule as written from a stable B1 base, adding language weeks if the baseline is low.

How to split your study time

Hören

Listen daily and review both the answer and the distractor language.

Lesen

Share the block between reading and Sprachbausteine, then rehearse their combined clock.

Schreiben

Plan, write and review the semi-formal or formal email under the real time limit.

Sprechen

Practise a structured presentation and a real exchange with follow-up questions.

Your week-by-week plan

Each week has one focus, the matching Sprachpass drills, and one honest checkpoint before you move on.

Week 1

8 to 10 hours this week

Learn the telc B2 shape: a 140-minute written paper out of 225 and a separate oral out of 75, each with its own pass line. Begin a list of two-part connectors (zwar ... aber, nicht nur ... sondern auch, je ... desto) for Schreiben and the oral discussion.

Sprachpass drills

You can explain the 90, 20 and 30-minute written blocks and the separate oral without notes.

Week 2

8 to 10 hours this week

Record a baseline on the written paper, untimed, part by part. Try a first oral run and note where the talk with your partner stalls.

You have a written total, an oral estimate and one clear priority.Practice mode stays untimed and gives feedback after each answer.

Week 3

9 to 11 hours this week

Train Lesen Teile 1 to 3 and Sprachbausteine Teile 1 and 2 against a single 90-minute clock. Listen to Hören Teile 1 to 3 daily: each B2 part plays once, so the first listen must count.

Sprachpass drills

Five parts finish inside the 90 minutes with time to check the gaps.

Week 4

10 to 12 hours this week

Write the 30-minute Schreiben email, a semi-formal or formal one chosen from task A or B, covering every point it lists. Two-part connectors and a clear paragraph order carry the argument.

Sprachpass drills

No listed point is missing, and the register holds steady to the last line.

Week 5

10 to 12 hours this week

Prepare the Sprechen Teil 1 experience, usually at home, then use the 20-minute preparation for the Teil 2 discussion and Teil 3 planning. Put Hören under its real timing of about 20 minutes.

You talk about your experience from short notes and keep the discussion going with follow-up questions.

Week 6

9 to 11 hours this week

Run the 140-minute written paper under exam conditions, then the oral, with the two totals kept apart.

Written 135 and oral 45 are both in reach, or you know which side needs week seven.Practice mode stays untimed and gives feedback after each answer.

Week 7

8 to 10 hours this week

Repair the side below its line while short sessions keep every other part active.

The repaired side clears its line in two separate runs.

Week 8

5 to 7 hours this week

Cut back to short daily practice, one early-week written rehearsal and a final oral warm-up, then logistics.

Nothing in either paper is new. If something is, add repair weeks instead of cramming.Practice mode stays untimed and gives feedback after each answer.

Questions about the plan

Is 8 weeks enough for telc B2?

8 weeks can be enough when your German is already near B2. If the first two weeks show large language gaps, add time before the timed rehearsal block.

How is telc B2 scored, and what does that change in this plan?

The written paper needs at least 135 of 225 points and the oral at least 45 of 75, and one cannot balance the other. That is why every checkpoint in this plan keeps a written total and an oral total.

Which week rehearses each telc B2 part?

Week 3 covers the reading block (Lesen Teile 1 to 3 plus Sprachbausteine Teile 1 and 2) and daily Hören, week 4 the Schreiben task and week 5 Sprechen Teile 1 to 3. Weeks 2, 6 and 8 rehearse both papers, and week 7 repairs one side.

Which German should I focus on for telc B2?

Two-part connectors such as zwar ... aber, nicht nur ... sondern auch and je ... desto. They help you link arguments in the Schreiben email and in the oral discussion.

How many days a week should I practise?

Five or six short days usually work better than one long weekend. Keep one lighter day and protect daily listening when it appears in the plan.

When should I book the exam?

Use a timed rehearsal as evidence. If the format feels familiar and your results are steady across skills, check current dates on BookGermanTest. If not, extend the repair block first.
